Suzy Davidson is a versatile artist, with a preference for large, expressive oils recognisable for their rapid-fire, vigorous brushwork and intuitive use of colour.
With a classic start in Fine Art in Cape Town, South Africa, reinforced by 8 years spent in Belgium at the L’Ecole des Arts de Braine L’Alleud under Belgian sculptor and painter Jean-Marie Mathot, there is little she is afraid to try. She has the ability to return to more classic works at times (mostly by request or as commission) but her natural “geste” or trait of hand, whether by brush, crayon or whatever medium is chosen, shines through.
In all work, internal expression, energy and experimental material or intent are dominant elements. Expressionist, bold, entertaining, sometimes caustic in commentary – after initial visual appreciation one is left to ponder a deeper context.
Commissioned and sold works have found homes across the world, from Europe, to the USA, South Africa and the East.
